A small ceratopsid herbivorous dinosaur from the late Cretaceous of about 83-70 million years ago that averages about 1.8 meters in length. It lived in dry, arid regions from what is now Mongolia and China and its sharp beak and teeth helped it with the dry, hard vegetation on which it fed. The neck shield is believed to have been for recognition of the species or to display in the mating ritual. The form varied between them and the reason is not well known. Protocetatops were devoured by velociraptors. The model has been made with an articulated beak and due to the small size of the animal, it has been manufactured in 1:6 scale. Agunos believe that from the fossils of protoceratops was born the idea that the mythical tap beak once existed.
